China is the most popular country having loess area in the world, accounting forabout6.3%of the total land of loess. In infrastructure projects, soil is the supportingstructure of the constructions, such as building, bridge and road etc. Considering thegeological characteristics of the loess in China, the mechanics and consolidationtechnologies of loess needs to be researched.After reviewing the mechanics characteristic and the basic of elastic-plastictheory of loess, lab experiment study was carried out with GDS test, water stabilitytest low temperature test and unconfined compressive strength test. During thisresearch, the engineering properties of undisturbed loess, lime, lime+cement, lime+curing agent and lime+cement+curing agent consolidated soil were investigated.Based on the loess mechanics research, results showed that the stress-strain curveis a typical nonlinear during the consolidation process. In the slow loading condition,the peak value of the deviatoric stress and strain is lower. On the contrary, thedeviatoric stress and strain increases under a big loading condition. And theconsolidation process of loess is divided into loading stage and voltage regulator stageunder the K0consolidation program. In addition, the axial compression ot the soilmainly comes from the loading stage.The research of the loess consolidation technology indicated that soil curingagent changed the chemical and physical properties of soil particle, leading to thechanges of the optimum water content for compaction. Moreover, the water stabilityof lime stabilized soil is worse than that of lime+curing agent consolidated soil,cement+lime consolidated soil and lime+cement+curing agent consolidated soil.In the low temperature shrinkage properties research, lime stabilized soil also showedthe worst performance that other stabilized soils.This paper argues that, the lime+curing stabilized soil is suitable for paving the grassroots. And the cement+lime+curing agent stabilized soil could be applied to heavy, medium and light trafficsubbases. At last, the above conclusions are verified through a test section in field.
