Culvert is one important part of the highway project. The culvert in cold regionsare experiencing vehicle load and wet-dry cycles,as well as heaving thaw effect, some culverts have the deformation joint sealants losing, wall cracking and otherdiseases at different levels after they are putted into use shortly, which shortened lifeand reduce the stability of the culvert. After investigation, the culvert leakage is themain reason for culvert diseases in cold regions. Deformation waterproof failures, culverts leakages, are often leading to ground water contents increasing and causinguneven frost heaving of the basement. The infiltration of surface water will exacerbatewarming and melting permafrost foundation, which is making culvert wall foundationuneven settlement occur. However, for the treatment of cold regions culvertsdeformation and sealant material selection, there is not yet possible reference totechnical standards, despite the current Sealant materials many types on the market, but the performance is quietly different.Considering the performance requirements of high altitude culvertdeformation caulking material and based on the analysis of the asphalt mechanism, this paper selected SBS, rubber powder, diatomaceous earth, using different processfor modification of asphalt, prepared different kinds of sealing materials.in view ofthe stress and use situation may arise through the course of sealant materials, thisarticle comprehensively evaluated the high-low temperature performance andcompared the comprehensive performance the sealant materials through the waysof penetration, electric recovery, low-temperature flexibility, high-temperatureflowing test and microstructure observation and other test methods. The level of adhesion strength between sealant material and the interface ofthe gap is firmly related to the success of fracture repair. The paper simulates theforce situation of the sealant materials by setting different influential factors andusing tensile test. Through the study of changes to the sealant materials adhesionstrength, we found that a variety of factors such as temperature, water and differentinterface treatment methods would cause varying degrees of adhesion decreases. Comparative evaluation shows good interface processing can improve the adhesionstrength. Finally, as for the environmental characteristics in cold regions, this paperproposed technology requirements for deformation sealant material construction.
