The Design Strategy Of University Library Adapt To The High-rise Form

The high-rise university library is different from multi-storey university library which isa special form of current existence. On the one hand, there is reasonable explanation of thehigh-rise library existence in university campus, which comply with the enlargement of thelibrary scale to embody the position of landmark building, or stem from the consideration ofplanning design; on the other hand, due to the disadvantages offends against thehuman-standard principle such as inconvenience and unsafe, made it questioned even opposedby the experts and scholars study in library and architecture field. Accordingly, the paperoriginated from the contradictions, try to investigate the origin of the problem and attempt toanswer the question that: Is there any suitable strategy as a design guide to avoid or reduce theadverse factors and make university library design with the high-rise building form to be morereasonable?The paper begin with the existing research situation and current cases of high-riseuniversity library, by analyzing the problem to form the research foundation and the cognitionof positive and negative, then, inquire into the specific university library design strategieswhich is adapt to the high-rise form.The article divided into three parts, with six chapters:The first part introduced the question and background information which is chapter I andchapter II. It mainly explained origin of the topic, research background, related researchsituation, research position and method of this essay, at same time established the frameworkof article. Based on this, made the cognitive definition of relevant concepts and Objectselection, collected cases and surveyed related statistics,retrospect typical cases of differenthistorical periods, in order to achieve a preliminary understanding of high-rise universitylibrary.The second part analysed and depth studied the question which is chapter III and chapterIV. First of all, analyzed the causes that why the university library come to the high-rise form,discussed the primal problem in design and apply due to the high-rise form, thereby, revealsthe contradictory and proposed the design principle to deal with the problem. And then, madethe further cognition and research about the high-rise form of university library from manyaspects such as: height of building, exterior space scale, form composition, plan composition, key points of fire protection design and so on.The third part solved the problem and made the practical application which is chapter Vand chapter VI. First, targeted discussed design strategy of university library which is adapt tothe high-rise form, including: the principle rational functional deployment and layeringarrangement, the organization and optimization of interior traffic, modular design in verticalpartitioning, absorption of courtyard space in high-rise library, etc. Furthermore, combinedwith2design practices, get a deeper understanding to the high-rise university library andexplored the possible design methods and strategies.
