Aero-engine health management can improve engine safety and reliability. At present, thetraditional design approach for aero-engine health management system has the high cost and longproduction cycle problems. Rapid prototyping technology has provided a solution to improve thesystem development effectively.In this paper, the rapid prototyping method of the health managementsystem for aero-engine is researched.A rapid prototyping method of the health management system for aero-engine is proposed basedon analysis of requirement of the health management system. A rapid prototyping platform of thehealth management system for aero-engine based on the virtual instrument and the rapid prototype isestablished by adopting the idea of modularization. By using the National Instrument (NI)CompactRIO, a signal interface unit is designed under the application environment named fieldprogrammable gate array (FPGA) to simulate the real sensors’ values, which costs the shortestresponding time among the environments. The platform can provide the windows-based real-timehealth management software development environment, which can download health managementalgorithms to the platform quickly.A simplified model of turbo-shaft engine based on the data of aeroengine test is established,which includes start-up model, steady model and dynamic model.The modification for dynamicmodel based on the data of aeroengine test is analysised.The real-time performance of the rapidprototyping platform is tested by simulation of the simplified model of turbo-shaft engine.The software design of the rapid prototyping controller is researched, which includes algorithmdesign and modular design in LabVIEW. Loop control algorithm and health management algorithmare designed. The modular design of the rapid prototyping controller program in LabVIEW isresearched by three methods, which are MathScript, sub VI and DLL,which can download algorithmsto the platform quickly.With the rapid prototyping controller and rapid prototyping platform, the hardware-in-the-loopsimulations are carried out to validate real-time communication of the platform and effectiveness ofthese algorithms. C code generation is studied, and the graphical program experiment of codegeneration and transplantation is carried out.
