Smart substation equipment with digital information, functional integration, compactand visualization features can meet the requirements of industrial applications. UsingSmart substation technology can solve the many defects of the conventional substation andeliminate information silos within the substation, provides a panoramic view of the dataacquisition to lay a good foundation for building a smart grid. The configuration of substation secondary equipment in smart substation is quitedifferent from in conventional substation. In the process of substation secondary design, due to the electronic transformertechnology becomes more mature, there are many kinds of transformer can be used.According to the actual engineering needs to choose the proper transformer is an importanttask of the designers. In the smart substation, the data collection, transmission, processing, sharing and the protection and control functions are realized depends on the network, sochoose a suitable network structure is also a big problem that policy-makers must beaddressed. In this paper, an efficient and practical decision method–AHP is be used tosolve the above two problems. In this paper, according to the information sharing and freeallocation of functions ideas of IEC61850, we can reduce the number of devices andreduce the cost of operation and maintenance by optimization and integration of thesecondary equipment.Based on existing theories, this paper analyzed the practical problems in the designprocess. Combining with the situation of actual project (220kV Yuan’an Smart Substation)this paper choose the optimal design of the secondary system of this project from thetransformer selection, the automation system network structure, the secondary systemfunction integration three aspects.
