Heritage Building Protection And Reuse

With the quickening of urbanization today, the influence of traditionalculture in modern life is declining. Heritage buildings are the carriers of spiritual andhistorical features of the area and the age, and also are non-renewable precious materialand spiritual value. Protection and reuse of heritage buildings will have great andpositive significance on inheriting traditional cultural heritage. At present, inthe international area, the protection of heritage buildings have been converted todynamic reuse protection from static protection, by this way, the value of heritagebuildings can be better showed, and it can produce positive social, cultural andeconomic benefits. However in our country, heritage buildings are often faced with thelack of protection and the phenomenon of letting it decay, besides the problems ofoverusing and damaging the value of the heritage buildings also exist. How to protectand reuse heritage buildings in the context of the era has important researchsignificance.This paper selects the Jinnan village project in Chongqing Nankai Middle Schoolfor the study, to research the main content and methods of protection and reuse ofheritage buildings. Jinnan village heritage buildings were built as Nankai Middle Schoolstaff dormitory in1936, which witnessed the feat of uniting to resist the war and thedevelopment of Chinese education, so they has important historical, artistic, scientificand social value, in addition, they also have important cultural emotional value. A lot ofproblems exist in the present situation of Jinnan village, so it is very urgent to takeprotective repair and reuse, whichcan bring the buildings new vitality in the new era andenvironment. This paper structures the research framework from four aspects,"historical research and value evaluation"," concept research on protection and reuse "," measures research on conservation and restoration" and"design research of reuse", in order to present a complete course of heritage buildings’protection and reuse design.Historical research and current status survey are the basis for the concept ofprotection. Firstly I did historical research, then surveyed and mapped the status quo ofJinnan village, organized Jinnan village history, and did classification assessmentof the heritage buildings’ value and current problems. On this basis, I analyzed thedevelopmental achievement and the connotation of the heritage buildings’ protection theory in the west countries and China. Then combining the current situation of Jinnanvillage,I established the principle of the protection and the concepts of reasonable reuseon the basis of protection.Secondly, under the guidance of the principles of conservation and restoration, Imade appropriate protective repairing measures to solve the problems of Jinnan village,including restoration measures on the environment, architecturalinterventions, and protection and infrastructure treatment measures, so that the value ofJinnan village can be protected. On the basis of conservation and restoration, Idiscussed the relationship between protection and reuse, thought deeply about theimpact of reuse working on the protection value, and provided the correspondingstrategies. Besides, I analyzed the significance of reuse and summarized three types ofreuse the heritage buildings, and proposed the corresponding strategy and designmethods. Based on the above analysis, combined the background of protection andthe actual situation of the village, I presented an idea of combining, reuse with theschool development to do the reuse design of Jinnan village.Finally, I made a summary of the full text, and reflected on the regret andinsufficient, and put forward the outlook for further research.
