With the continuous improvement of the modern automobile technology, the torqueand power of the engine has been promoted greatly, and the heat generated alsoincreases, so the engine thermal management system is put forward higher requirements. If engine thermal management system and engine do not match well, it will cause thepower and fuel economic performance bad as well as service life of the engine short andso forth. So it is of great significance to study engine thermal management system. The research object of this paper is motorcycle engine of existing model andresearch model. For existing model, over cooling phenomenon is found in the process ofwork, so it is necessary to redesign the thermal management system of existing model. At the same time, the study of the research model makes it easy to design a matchingthermal management system. This paper uses a method of numerical simulation to studytwo motorcycle engine thermal management system. In this paper, first of all, a simulation is established by the BOOST-RT softwarebased on the model of a certain type of motorcycle engine. At the same time a builtmotorcycle engine thermal management system test bench is used to verify thereliability of the simulation model. Results show that the difference of the torque andpower of the model and engine bench test value is about0.8kW and0.8N·m and thatthe temperature in radiator of the model and engine bench test values differ0.3℃and1.1℃respectively, that the oil temperature of the model andengine bench test valuediffer2.5℃, and that the errors are within5%. So the model simulation has highaccuracy and reliability. In this paper, the cooling water pump, radiator, thermostat and oil pump parts areselected to analyze the influence of their structural parameters such as by changing theparameters of the important structure of these components. The results show that thecooling water pump, radiator, and thermostat of cooling system has a larger effect on theperformance of the engine, while the oil pump in the lubricating system has littleinfluence on engine performance in a certain range. In this paper, based on the analysis of existing models, its thermal managementsystem is optimized and at the same time the research model is studied to determine itsimportant parameters of the main components in the thermal management system. Theresults by the simulation show that the water temperature in the cooling system and temperature difference are in a reasonable range, that the temperature of the lubricatingoil temperature in the system is in a reasonable scope, that the torque and power of theengine is bigger and fuel consumption is less, and that the power performance and fueleconomy of the engine is good when the engine is at work.
