With the paced urbanization process in the world, more and more people pouredinto the city. High-rise residential buildings on one hand solved the problem of the largeneeds of living spaces, but on the other hand have destroyed the city texture andtraditional community. Also, in the dull living environment in High-rise residentialbuildings, people always feel hard to get the nature, lack of communication spaces, nosocial interactions in the building and also becoming more and more isolated andindifference.Facing these problems, this thesis proposes the concept of Vertical Community,analyzing the living mode from the point of community view of community, achievingthe reconstruction of traditional community in vertical direction based on the publicspace design inside the building. This kind of living model will eliminate the depressemotions, stimulate the social interaction and recall the community spirit in High-riseresidential buildings. Correspondingly, this micro-community model also is a positiveresponse to the functional urbanization of buildings in urban high density area.Four parts are introduced here, including five chapters:The first part (Chapter1) is the introduction, mainly focusing on illustration of thisthesis’s research background, research content, research purpose and aiming, researchmethodology and category.The second part (Chapter2,3,4) is the analysis part. Chapter2has looking back ofhigh-rise residential building development, pointing out the today’s living problems andits causes, and the future tendency. The third chapter analyzes the meaning ofcommunity, and through the understanding of the affecting factors of traditionalcommunity vitality,clarified the goal of vertical community.The third part (Chapter5) concentrates on the strategies. Through the planningpoint of view (the division of neighborhood association units), the space design point ofview(reconstructing the traffic space, the introduction of urban functions and greenspaces), the space spirit point of view(building sense of community places andbelonging) and the management point of view(the community management) to achievethe objective of the construction of vertical community.The last part (Chapter6) summarizes the whole thesis,the future challenges and hopes for the future research development.
