Reliability of Structure Component is the reliability of each component in astructural system. Simplicity, this kind of reliability is called Structural ComponentReliability. Performance function of structural component is implicit function of thebasic random variables which affect the structure component function. Traditional FistOrder Second Moment method in calculating reliability need to solve the partialderivative of the performance function therefore cannot be directly used for solving thereliability of structural component. Classical reliability calculation method that can dealwith implicit performance functions mainly includes the Monte Carlo Method, theResponse Surface Method and the Moment Method.Embedded Method and Separate Method based on the theory of finite elementhave been studied by some scholars. Although the two methods is feasible in theory, butthere are many difficulties in practice. Monte Carlo Method, Response Surface Methodand Moment Method based on finite element theory are proposed in this paper tocalculate the Structural Component Reliability.The Monte Carlo Method based on finite element is widespread and reliable. Theresults of Monte Carlo Method are close to the exact solution. The results of ResponseSurface Method and Moment Method based on finite element compared with the MonteCarlo method, the calculation relative error are smaller, can meet the accuracyrequirement of the engineering reliability calculation. Time cost of the Monte CarloMethod to calculate reliability index increase with the increase of the reliability indexwhich mean the solving time dependent on the reliability index. Relatively, theResponse Surface Method and Moment Method have obvious calculation efficiencycompared with the Monte Carlo Method. The Response Surface Method needs toconstruct the response surface function of each component and computing becomesmore complicated in complicated engineering structure with increased components.Compared with the Response Surface Method, the process of Moment Method issimpler in solving the reliability index and can get the reliability index of allcomponents at the same time. Moment Method based on the finite element is thesimplest method, the most suitable method for the structure component reliabilitycalculation in engineering.A special calculation procedure based on Moment Method is created in this paperfor calculating the structural component reliability of beam-column elements. The program can be used to calculate structure reliability index of different engineering withsimply revising. The above procedure is used to calculate the structural componentreliability index of a steel frame structure, the results show that the structure is safetyand the components are reliable.
