With the dramatic acceleration of urbanization in China, the municipalinfrastructure has lagged behind the development of the economy, and the balancebetween city and nature is running out of balance. One common phenomenon is"flooding on the streets" during the rain season, which has been brought to ourattentions due to its influence and increasingly occurrence. Therefore, some citieshave been making efforts on preventing it, such as gentrification of existing drainageroutes and utilization of natural river system. These efforts are aimed to enhance thecomprehensive competitiveness of the cities, so as to build a modern eco-city.The harbor economic zone is one of the nine functional areas of the Binhai NewArea. It has the responsibility to make Tianjin become an international port city, aneco-city, as well as the economic center of northern China. It also takes the task tomake the Binhai New Area become the international shipping and logistic center innorthern China. The harbor economic zone is planned to focus on equipmentmanufacturing, ports, logistics and other ancillary services. By reclaiming land fromthe sea, this area will finally become an important harbor area with200km2land areaand70km coastline. With the accelerated pace of the development and construction of the harboreconomic zone(central), optimization of existing drainage route and management ofrainwater is not only the need concerning the development of the harbor economiczone(central), but also related to the company’s own admission. Therefore, it is urgentto seek a more suitable rainwater system which satisfies regional when building theharbor economic zone. This thesis presents a study on both drainage network modeland artificial canals model via analyzing their concepts, features, advantages anddisadvantages, and proposes an optimized design of rainwater plan on man-madecanals based on no river schemes considering the natural conditions of the harboreconomic zone(central), planning principles, land use and other aspects of theregion. This thesis also compares the economic benefits, environmental benefits, flood effects between these two plans. The results showed that the scheme ofconstructing canal system in the harbor economic zone(central) has more advantages, which is more suitable for the rainwater system solution of this region.
