Wushan Street Central Area Reconstruction Design Research

With the constant update and improvement of Chinese higher education theory since the20th century, education is developing from elite education to universal education and campusconstruction also switch from the original closed ivory tower to open campus direction.Campus planning and construction is not confined to the campus land within the red line, thecampus surrounding public space also need to be taken into consideration. Some foreignuniversity campus with surrounding public space together have become characteristic campuscommunity or campus town full of college atmosphere after years of development, such as theUSA Pennsylvania university, the England Oxford, etc.Wushan street central area is located in Guangzhou Tianhe district, having entire cityservice function though it being close to South China University of Technology and SouthChina Agricultural University. However, it shows the characteristics of being not adapt to thedevelopment of surrounding public space and not showing the features of campus surroundingpublic space due to construction spontaneous and lack of overall planning and coordination.Therefore this paper hopes to come up with a reconstruction and design strategy to makeWushan Street a campus town having the characteristics of “campus life in city, city life incampus”.This paper consists of three parts:The first part arouses the question. It is the Chapter1-general introduction which mainlyintroduces the research background, object, purpose and meaning and framework, etc.The second part analyzes and studies. It covers Chapter2which analyzes the presentsituation of Wushan street central area, Chapter3which studies on the needs of the users andChapter4which investigate the service behavior in Wushan street central area. This partsummarizes the existing problems through field research analysis and field observationmethods and provides guidance and reference for the designing and reconstruction strategy’scoming forward through questionnaire survey method and with the relevant case analysis bothdomestic and international.The third part is the reconstruction design strategy research of Wushan street central area. It is the Chapter5that shows the design positioning, principles and comes up with areconstruction design which is the complement and verification of the strategy.
