The ways of the exhausts utilization were fuel improvement, heating, refrigeration, turbocharger, recirculation, thermal energy conversion on vehicles. Energy regeneration using temperature variation from exhausts could improve fuel economy, environmental protective effectively, and had important theoretical value. The transformation from the engine emissions energy to effective work and the superiority of thermal energy conversion by emissions energy on vehicles were studied. Using the second thermodynamics law, the loss, efficiency and balance equation in the emission process was analyzed, and received the loss distribution and cost-saving measures. By setting up a double-coupled thermal energy model, optimized its efficiency and output power through the theoretical calculation, and demonstrated its feasibility. Researched the semiconductor technology and corresponding relations between semiconductor technology and transformation efficiency and output power, and combining the characteristics of the emissions and semiconductor materials, proposed the proper pipe structure using semiconductor materials Bi2Te3,PbTe,SiGe,optimized the different structures on vehicles considering the transformation efficiency and the output power as the objective function, and verified the device’s reasonableness by ANSYS/FLOTRAN. At last, researched voltage regulation theory matching with thermoelectric generator, designed the regulator adjusting device based on pulse-width modulation. The semiconductor thermoelectric power generator on vehicles was designed, which had no changing original whole layout, no pollution, no noise, light weight, small size, reliable application and wide market prospect.
