With the height and span increasing in building, the diversity of architectural features and the promoting of people’s requirements on the aesthetics of building, buildings look more and more novel, at the same time, the structure of modern architectures or buildings becoming more complex. These complex architectures are generally irregular, some are specially irregular, it makes structural more difficulty be designed and design. So structural engineers have to be more intelligent. Calculation and analysis is essential to the design of modern building structures, as it is directly related to the safety, economy and usability. The emergence of high-performance computers and the development of various highly efficient finite element analysis or design software, make it possible for people to do accurate analysis and design of complex structures. On the background of Concert Hall ,which is a portion of Changsha Riverside cultural park project, model experiment and three-dimensional elastic-plastic large deformation shell element FEM have been used to study the ultimate bearing and deformation behavior. In chapter 1, briefly introduced Concert Hall project of Changsha Riverside cultural park, and prioritily introduced the application of the folded-line steel box-section columns in this project..In Chapter 2, model experiment has been conducted to measure the strain and the displacement under multi-level loads, the yield load and ultimate load have been obtained, and experimental phenomenon when the component reached its yield load and ultimate load have been depicted to discribe the failure mode of the folded-line steel box-section column. In Chapter 3, ANSYS finite element software has been used to analyze the bearing and deformation properties of the folded-line steel box-section column under vertical load, failure mode, ultimate vertical bearing capacity and weak position of it have been obtained. And the experimental results were compared with the ANSYS analysis results, test results show good agreement with the ANSYS calculation. In Chapter 4, ANSYS finite element software has been used to do parameter analysis of the folded-line steel box-section column. Impact of the wall thickness ratio and the end moment on the failure mode, ultimate bearing capacity and weak position have been studied. In Chapter 5,hysteretic behavior subjected to constant axial and circulating horizontal force, and the impacts of axial force N, thickness of stiffener T, column wide-thickness ratio B / t on hysteretic behavior , have been systemic studied. Based on hysteresis curve, seismic performance of folded-line steel box-section column has been evaluated.Based on the above, it make sense to evaluate the mechanical properties and the safety of folded-line steel box-section column under the vertical and horizontal loads, to get of theweak parts and values of certain parameters which have greate impacts on the mechanical properties of components. On the base of them, some useful suggestions of the design have been put forward.
