Since the twenty-first century, China’s clothing industry got the unprecedented development and the rapid development of the apparel industry puts forward higher requirements for clothing education. The eighteenth National Conference of the Party puts forth the strategic plans for the deepening comprehensive reform of education system, and further promoting the integration of production and education,school-enterprise cooperation to establish modern vocational education system.Although costume pattern course is a very important professional curriculum of clothing and apparel design profession, most clothing pattern course of clothing institutions is obsolete in course teaching contents, single in teaching method, not strong in practice ability, lack of innovation consciousness, and unable to meet the needs of the society.Other professional curriculum reform practice indicates that Project Approach Method can effectively reform the traditional teaching problems like teacher’ guiding role,students practice and innovation ability and can promote the reform and innovation of talent training mode to meet the urgent needs of the current social development for innovative and entrepreneurial talents.The article focuses on the students of grade 2014 and grade 2013 in clothing and apparel design profession of China West Normal University. Literature method,information method, survey method, case method and other research methods are adopted in this study. Research about Project Approach method on costume design course are carried out from the cultivation of students’ practical skills, innovative thinking, promoting the integration ability of students’ interdisciplinary knowledge, and stimulating student’s market awareness and career planning ability. This dissertation includes: research on present situation of costume pattern course and solving strategies strategy, the demand analysis of implementing Project Approach in the course of costume pattern, teaching design scheme of Project Approach on costume pattern course,and its implementation and evaluation.The feasibility of Project Approach applied in costume pattern course is proved by this research and certain teaching achievements have been made to achieve the teaching goal. The output shows that adoption of Project Approach Method can not only improve students’ enthusiasm, market awareness, practical ability, professional skills and professional quality but also has contributed to the development of the teaching reform of clothing professional education, renovation of teaching conceptions, adjusting the contents of teaching, innovative teaching methods and optimizing teachers’ group constructing. The research further perfects the teaching theory of discipline curriculum,and has positive significance to the widespread application of Project Approach method.
