As time goes by,many outdated domestic appliances are eliminated. It would cause not only damage to the environment but also waste on resources if these appliances can not be recycled in a proper way. In order to deal with these appliances effectively, a double-roller crusher has been applied and developed. Mechanical properties analysis of crusher cutter, which is the main part of the whole machine, is very important in the cutting process.This paper is based on a program of the China Electric Appliance Science Research Institute, and investigate the design rationality of crusher cutter. After analyzing the mechanical properties of cutter, the shearing force is calculated during the process and actual power needed when the cutter is rotating. The ANSYS/LSDYNA finite element software and an explicit dynamic method are used to analyze the cutting process, and stress value on different position of cutter is given at different moment. It shows that, the maximum stress value is smaller than the material yield limit during shearing process. At the same time, as well as the changing rule of the shearing force on cutter was obtained, the influence of overlap between the cutter, the lateral clearance,the cutter diameter and other factors on the shearing force were analyzed. In addition, a modal analysis is done to check out whether the tool would resonate when rotating. The result shows that, the changing frequency of the external load to which cutter subjected is far away from resonance region. Furthermore, the abrasion is analyzed during shearing process, and forecast service life of cutter.In this paper, a combined method of software simulation with theoretical calculation is adopted to analyze shearing process. It provides a rationality basis to design new type of cutter. It could shorten the development cycle of crusher and save the cost. Meanwhile, the method used in this paper is hopefully to have reference value to other types of crushing process.
