In recent years, oil pipe string automatic make-up and break-out technology is growing rapidly and making new achievements continuously, with the improvement of the technical level of automation in domestic and foreign oil fields. An automated make-up and break-out operating equipment-iron roughneck is gradually applied to the drilling and workover operations, its applications will greatly reduce the labor intensity, operating risk factor and the space usage of drilling platforms, improve drilling workover efficiency.It is mainly to complete the three-joint articulated arm research design, and its kinematics, dynamics and the overall mechanical optimization analysis,with the reference of foreign ST-120 and domestic TZG216-110 iron roughneck products’ articulating arm mechanism, i Then it makes a brief introduction of the base- column system and hydraulic control system, and completes the research of transport agency of iron roughnecks.Firstly, it compares different iron roughnecks’ articulating arm mechanism, makes an introduction of their structure, working principle and the related technical parameters, then determines the article research scheme. According to the reference of iron roughneck products’ technical parameters, making some analysis and calculation to determine the basic parameters of the research target, then creating the designed model. Secondly, it simplifies the established model, completes the kinematics analysis, dynamics analysis and the whole movement of the optimization with the method of theoretical calculation and Adams software simulation measurement, and finishes the intensity check to each member of the articulated arms with Ansys-workbench software. Finally, it does a simple design research to the base-column system which provides fixed base for articulated arm institutions and hydraulic control system, and outlines its role function.The paper accomplished the three joint articulated arm mechanism design and analysis, combined with the introduction to the base-column system and hydraulic control system, it completes a set of research and analysis to the iron roughneck movement agency, to provide certain reference for future studies of iron roughneck product.
