The packer which is used in subparagraph fracturing of horizontal open hole well completion has been widely applied to the field of operational process. When the packer of open hole fractures which under the external casing, goes down to the well, it contacts with the borehole cuttings, and produce friction resistance. In addition, with the packer goes down to the well, borehole cuttings will be accumulated in front of the packers, and gather more and more, also the borehole cuttings will hinder the packer. How big is the resistance, what are the factors affecting resistance are both need to be studied. But according to the current study, packer’s research work has mostly focused on the analysis of its performance, cones and new material development of packer tube under mechanical analysis. But the research work on the issue how to reduce the cutting is not very full.In order to study the effect of borehole cuttings, the author design several hydrophobic sand packers. Through the design experiment program, firstly, this paper design experiment device which can be used to test the performance of the packer, including experiment substructure, pulley, and shake handle, and so on. Also the author purchase some auxiliary instruments, such as pull test device, and data acquisition storage device. After the machining of the components, the whole experiment device is completed. Secondly, the author used general packer to do some experiments to verify the effect of rock chip bed, and if more serious, it will appear sand blocking phenomenon. Thirdly, for above problem, the author modifies the structure of the general packer, and design hydrophobic sand packer which has 6 hydrophobic sand traps, and did some experiments according to the device. As the results displayed that the new hydrophobic sand packer has obvious experiment results, and the motorcycle resistance has obviously reduced. However, in part of experiment conditions, the effect is not very good. The reason which caused this phenomenon may lie in the first structure of hydrophobic sand packer is not optimal structure. Finally, the author designs another two t ypes of hydrophobic sand packers. Through experiments, get the final optimal structure.Final results showed that when the packer opens 5 traps can basically meet the needs of the experimental conditions, and make the friction resistance get minimum value, and also the effect of hydrophobic sand is best.
