Entering into 21 st century, our coastal waters is increasingly polluted, in order to make full use of the marine resources to develop marine economy and build a marine power, the state administrative departments are paying more and more attention on the research of the real-time detection of sea water quality and real-time massive information processing technologies. Thus accurate sea water quality data can be obtained and used for carrying out comprehensive evaluation and making corresponding decision, which will enhance the ability to utilize the marine resources, conduct marine pollution early warning and carry out ecological environment protection.In this paper, how to use senor technology to detect sea water quality under current background will be stated in six parts. The first part elaborates the background and significance by briefly introducing the development and status quo of sensor technology research home and abroad. In second part, detailed explanation of definition and common detection methods is given for sea water basic parameters like dissolved oxygen, PH, conductivity and temperature etc. The third part talks about the selection of sensors, taking into account of following principles including particularity of sea water, the advance of technological development, measurement accuracy and economics, also sensor’s detection principle and related parameters are briefed. The fourth part carries out research on the design principle and hardware composition of the data collection and transmission system, introduces in details about various water quality acquisition hardware devices and NI9219 data acquisition card, and then comes up with a proposal based on NI9219 data collection and transmission system. For fifth part, LabVIEW is chosen as the development platform, based on which software of seawater quality data acquisition and transmission is developed, researching on software functional requirement, framework and structure design, and finally developing the software in 3 molecular modules of data collection, transmission and storage. In last part, test and debugging of the marine water quality monitoring system is completed to verify the system’s the feasibility, stability and reliability.The design of marine water quality monitoring system have achieved satisfactory results through experiments and debugging. The design methods and ideas of the paper also lay a solid foundation to enrich system functions, increase detection parameters in future. After further improvement, the system can be widely applied in chemical industry, environmental protection, food industry, water supplyand other fields, which will definitely have good prospects.
