In the past decades, heat-moisture comfort property of textiles has became the most basic and principal research contents in textiles. Heat-moisture comfort property means the function to keep the temperature and humidity in the microclimatic zone between skin and fabric comfortable for man. In order to develop a kind of knitted fabric with heat generating by moisture absorption property and good wearabilities, we reviewed the development of spinnings and fabrics at home and abroad and analysed the disadvantages in this field in China.First of all, coffee charcoal powder modified polyethylene terephthalate(PET) samples with different content of coffee charcoal powder from 0.5 wt% to 4.0 wt% were prepared by blending. Some basic performances were tested and analysed, such as dispersion of coffee charcoal powder in modified PET, thermal stability, crystallization and melting behavior. The results suggested that the dispersion of coffee charcoal powder with the content at 0.5 wt% and 1.0 wt% were better than the ones at 2.0 wt% and 4.0 wt%. On one hand coffee charcoal podwer played a role of nucleating agent which promoted molecular chain of modified PET to orderly arrange at high temperature in low content. On the other hand coffee charcoal powder may hinder the motion of chain segment which made crystallization peaks of modified PET moved towards the lower temperature. Based on the properties of modified PET and the content of coffee charcoal needed in PET, we chose coffee charcoal modified PET with content of 1.0 wt% as the raw material of coffee charcoal/PET staple fibers.Based on the coffee charcoal powder modified PET, yarns of(coffee charcoal/PET)/rayon(35/65)-16 S,(coffee charcoal/PET)/acrylic/rayon(20/35/45)-16 S, PET/ acrylic/rayon(20/35/45)-16 S,(coffee charcoal/PET)/acrylic/rayon(33/33/34)-16 S and(coffee charcoal/PET)/acrylic/rayon(33/33/34)-32 S were spun by using PET(1.67 dtex×38 mm), coffee charcoal/PET(1.0 wt%, 1.67 dtex×38 mm), acryic(1.67 dtex×38 mm) and rayon(1.33 dtex×38 mm). Morever, plain knitted fabrics were prepared by yarns mentioned above. Physical properties of yarns, heat-moisture comfort property, heat generating by moisture absorption property and crease recovery angle were tested. The results suggested that the heat generating by moisture absorption property of the fabrics of(coffee charcoal/PET)/rayon(35/65) and(coffee charcoal/PET)/acrylic/rayon(20/35/45) reached the industry standard FZ/T73036-2010. Meanwhile, we also found that coffee charcoal/PET may promote hydrophilicity, heat preservation rate, air permeability and heat generating by moisture absorption property of fabrics.
