Phyllostachys Glauca Furniture Products Design

Aimed at material characteristics of Phyllostachys glauca like outward appearance,physical mechanics and manufacturing,we have explored its relevance with the design of product and made related practices.According to the research, Phyllostachys glauca is a kind of renewable resources, mainly distributed in the Yangtze River basin and the Yellow River basin,and it’s fast for Phyllostachys glauca to the form forest. With a diameter between 2cm to 5cm and being straight and long,each section of the nanon bamboo has a length between 20cm and 40cm.After being cut,the tough and smooth bamboo’s color fades from green into yellow.Although Phyllostachys glauca is hollow,it has superior performance in physical mechanics and bending with strong plasticity, that the tensile strength is about 184 MPa, and the compressive strength is about 36Mpa.The manufacturing performance is diverse.In addition to cleaving, planing, cutting, and digging, Phyllostachys glauca can be made bending through fire. A variety of physical and chemical method can be used to change the appearance and color of bamboo, and enhance its mechanical properties. When designing the shape of product, DBH characteristics of Phyllostachys glauca determines various grid and pattern parts through arranging and combining,good bending performance determines the products overall form featuring comparison of tortuous and straight,hard and soft,the unique original texture determines product texture through arranging and combining, and material combination, and natural bamboo color together with rich colored feature determine the simple, elegant color tone of products.When designing the structure of product, small diameter makes it easier to boost the intension of parts’mechanical strength by piecing together,the structure of Wrapping caused by incision because of its bending modulus, we can fix parts by the structure of Binding because of its super toughness,it can use Schematic diagram of end connection,the T-shaped connection, the Cross-shaped connection and the L-shaped connection because of bamboo cavity.About decoration design,we can use Lattice decoration which were arranged and combined by Small bamboo,design Curve decoration and Pattern decoration by its bending modulus,use different shades of brindle by carbonization or Bamboo-joint decoration which were arranged and combined by Bamboo joint.Phyllostachys glauca furniture product design should be in line with the economy, practicality, aesthetic principle under the design concept of making the best of raw material and bamboo culture.We can make specific innovation in the method of drawing material scientifically,composing reasonably, using stylized elements, making simple structure and diversifying material. On the background of tea house, the writer has carried out design and practice on the base of concerned concepts, principles and methods,and finally designed a set of four pieces of furniture products.
