Drilling in the piedmont area of Tarim Basin has always been a problem, in which the geological conditions are very complicated, and thick gravel layer, composite salt gypsum layer, multi-pressure system, high temperature and high pressure and unstable strata all exist. So it easily leads to a series of problems, such as wellbore instability, destruction of the pressure balance system, and so on, which brings risk to the drilling project beyond our expectation. According to the drilling and geological features, comprehensive evaluation methods of bits have been established. After selecting bits, a set of bits selection technique has been formed; the application of torsion impact device guarantee the well body quality and enhance the ROP and drilling guidance, which makes the bits cut the fractured formation more effectively; the combination of turbine and impregnated bit improves the footage of single bit, and the ROP enhancement is obvious. Applying the above mentioned technologies in piedmont area of Tarim Basin, which has a good impact on wells. Through the above research, a set of ROP enhancing technologies have been formed, which provided strong theoretical basis and technical support for accelerating the exploration process in piedmont area of Tarim Basin.
