Design and development of the dedicated PDC bit has always been the main direction of the world’s major bit manufacturers. From market research in Jilin, Changqing, Xinjiang, these areas are more prevalent sandwich formation, which is one of the limiting factors of increasing drilling speed. In order to design and develop the anti-sandwich PDC bits,we carried out further researchon oilfield in Xinjiang aimed at a comprehensive understanding of Mesozoic strata lithology. Therefore we could design and develop several anti-sandwich PDC bits, improve the bit’s life cycle and increase its drilling speed.Anti-sandwich PDC bits have been in the spotlight for all sections focusing on oil and gas development in recent years. This product was successfully developed with higher drilling speed in the lower sandwich part in northeast, Changqing, Xinjiang and other fields, which has a positive role in enhancing the drill in hard and soft sandwich drilling ROP, and is still a major breakthrough in increasing efficiency of PDC bits.Innovative mixing tooth and minimum power methods proposed on the tooth arrangement in the anti-sandwich PDC bits resulted in a bit more drilling stability and long life in the sandwich layer. Other efficient stable structures are designed like using damping pad, alternate tooth, open water hole, joint gage and so on in the structural design, to further enhance the stability of the bits. We developed a multi-model bit used in Xinjiang, Jilin, the effect is significant.
