In recent years, environmental problems are still serious, the economic development and environmental problems appeared the contradiction.With the development of the society and people’s attention to environmental problems, governments also issued relevant laws and regulations to restraint problem of environmental pollution in enterprise production.And hydrophobically-modified ethoxylated urethane associative thickeners with water as dispersion medium, can satisfy the current requirements of environmental protection of polymer materials.Hydrophobically-modified ethoxylated urethane associative thickeners has the characteristics of safe and reliable, green environmental protection, no pollution, it is widely used in paint industry and closely related to our daily life.This paper designed and synthesized three different arms star polyethylene glycol (two arms,three arms and six arms), Three types of hydrophobically-modified ethoxylated urethane associative thickeners (HEUR) with star structure were synthesized by the reaction of synthesized star polyethylene glycol and octadecylisothiocyanate. respectively two arms HEUR, three arms HEUR and six arms HEUR. The performance of the three kinds of HEUR to research and contrast.The synthesis and characterization of three types of star structure type polyethylene glycol.This chapter to ethylene glycol, glycerin, sorbitol as starting agent, using two-step synthesis. Respectively low molecular weight polyethylene glycol and high molecular weight polyethylene glycol.Again to three types of star structure type polyethylene glycol for determination of hydroxyl value and functionality, infrared test. By comparing the thickening effect, we put forward a new kind of star type HEUR thickening models, therefore deduce development dobby type HEUR has no practical significance in practice.
