| Jingdezhen, as china in the world for thousands, is quite famous for its manufacturing of greenish white porcelain in Song Dynasty on the basis of the large number of production of white porcelain in Five Dynasties. In order to comprehensively understand the development process of Jingdezhen porcelain, it is vital to explore the evolution from the white porcelain in Five Dynasties to greenish white porcelain in Song Dynasty. Thus, based on a bunch of characteristic techniques and multidisciplinary cross research ideas, this thesis has systematically investigated the similarities and differences between Jingdezhen white porcelain in Five Dynasties and greenish white porcelain in Song in terms of the chemical composition of body and glaze, the microstructures, physical properties as well as the contained technological connotation. Then try to conclude the modification about the porcelain process from Five Dynasties to Song in Jingdezhen city.In the comparatively study of chemical composition, it has been found that the amount of flux in body of greenish white porcelain is higher than that of white porcelain. A little more Fe2O3 is the cause of slight greenish yellow and both of these two glazes are defined as calcareous glaze especially for much more CaO in greenish white porcelain. Based on the value of MnO2 and P2O5 in glaze, it seems the ancient craftsman had added more glaze ash into formula in greenish white porcelain comparing to white porcelain. In the Northern Song, for the aspect of making body, kilnman insisted to take advantage of the single raw material, chinastone, which is very sufficient in the surrounding areas around. Such so, the formulas of various kilns in Jingdezhen tend to be stable. But the content of flux agent and coloring elements in glaze still fluctuates a lot, which had been considered as on-going trials at that time. In addition, writer inferred that the glaze of both white porcelain in Five Dynasties and greenish white porcelain in Song is single layer, however the the distinctive difference had shown in the scanning electron microstructural images which had played a key role in depth of green color. Observing huge quartz clusters in the glaze layer indicates the degree of early porcelain crafting, for example, the raw material processing, the mixing and grinding of initial particles. The lower sintering temperature of greenish white porcelain is one of the primary reasons for obtaining the correspondingly worse glossiness. Also, the rise and fall happening in the each index of chromaticity demonstrated that the exploratory stage was consistently going on for the interest of firing conditions. This research try to establish significant foundations for the comprehensive understanding of Jingdezhen ceramic history, but also to provide the theoretical evidences for further study about the white porcelain and greenish white porcelain in Jingdezhen. |
