Chinese national art has gained wide favor from the fashion business globally since 1980 s. In recent years, clothes with national features have become increasingly popular among consumers. In the terms of how to apply national elements properly in fashion design, a growing number of designers have realized that simply mixing and combining those elements is not desirable. Instead, how to refine and apply the essence of the national elements with modern ideas in fashion design remains a pursuit of today’s designers. The national appeal valued by the people is the showcase of the attributive characters of national elements. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the attributive characters of national elements, as well as the application in fashion design.De’ang has a long history and unique culture characteristics. Based on an in-depth research on De’ang Nationality, the author discovers the existence of the “naivete”in De’ang people’s costumes. Primarily, the thesis studies the“naivete”of the color, pattern, fabric and craft of De’ang costumes, and compares with that of Miao Nationality, which is more exquisite and sophisticated in order to better explain the style. Moreover, causes are explored from the perspectives of region; religion, cross-nationality communication and national mentality to further demonstrate the cultural connotation behind the “naivete”.Designs from the brand, YenCha, are chosen as the case in this thesis to analyze the application of “naivete”in fashion design. Based on the interpretation of “naivete”into modern fashion design language, the thesis studies the methods of designing the element of “naivete”, and demonstrates the methods by analyzing the color, pattern and fabric of the clothing. In the end, with a combination of elements and clothing, the thesis presents designs of clothing with a sense of “naivete”. Practice has proved that with the design of the study of this topic is realistic. The case can help designers draw inferences in order to understand and make better use of national cultures in fashion designing. It not only inspires for designers, but also provokes the public to better inherit and protect national cultures.
