Nanoscale latex fluorescent pigment prepared with miniemulsion polymerization method is a kind of functional pigments, which is made of latex and fluorescent dye.It can be applied in dyeing and printing of textiles as well as preparation of fluorescent inks. The particle size of nanoscale latex fluorescent pigment is small, and the size distribution is narrow, the color strength is high. The colored latex particles can form thin films on the surface of fabrics, which is an effective way to improve the color fastness because that the colored films has the function of protecting fluorescent dye.The effects of kinds and amount of monomers, emulsifier and co-emulsifier, solvent yellow 43 dosage, amount of initiator and ultrasound treatment time on its properties were investigated. The results indicate that the optimized synthesis conditions are that the mass ratio of BA to MMA is 1:1, the mass fraction of solvent yellow 43, hexadecane and initiator based on the weight of monomers is 1.5%,1.5% and 0.8%, respectively, the concentration of DNS-86 is 19.11 mmol/L, the ultrasound treatment time is 9 min. The nanoscale latex fluorescent pigment prepared under the optimal conditions shows excellent stability with particle size of 162.1 nm. The maximum fluorescence emission wavelength of the nanoscale latex fluorescent pigment is 517 nm. Compared with the commercial nanoscale fluorescent pigment, the fastness of the printed cotton fabrics with nanoscale latex fluorescent pigment is high in that the colored latex can form thin films on cotton surface, which is helpful to protect the dye from the external environment. The dyeing performance of nanoscale latex fluorescent pigment on cotton fabrics was also investigated. Cotton fabrics were modified by 3-chloro-2-hydroxytrimethyl ammonium chloride before dyeing. The effects of 3-chloro-2-hydroxytrimethyl ammonium chloride, NaOH, treatment temperature and time were investigated. The results show that the optimized modifying conditions are that the concentrations of 3-chloro-2-hydroxy trim ethyl ammonium chloride and NaOH are 0.10 mol/L,0.225 mol/L, the treatment temperature and time are 40℃,30 min, with a liquor ration of 1:30. The FT-IR result shows that 3-chloro-2-hydroxy trimethyl ammonium chloride is grafted onto cotton fabrics successfully. Compared with the untreated cotton fabrics, the adsorption ability of nanoscale latex fluorescent pigment on the cationic cotton fabrics greatly improves, and the dyed cotton fabrics has high color fastness. The optimized dyeing conditions are that the temperature and time are 50℃,40 min, with a liquor ration of 1:30.
