Study On Huizhou Folk Costume Culture Of Modern Times

Huizhou, which has a reputation for its cultural geography concept is an independent and remarkable custom element. The special requirements of folks in Huizhou are due to its unique history, geography and human environment.Base on the collections in China Huizhou Culture Museum, Folk Costumes Museum of Jiangnan University and the natives, this paper has a deep research into Huizhou folk costumes and analyzes the regional costumes in Huizhou which combining with four aspects i.e. the clothing sharp,the decorative art, the clothing custom and the costumes blending regional culture.First, the paper analyzes the sharp of Huizhou folk costumes which consists of women, men and children’s costumes. It proposes that Huizhou folk costumes are extension of the traditional Han folk costumes. Because of the difference of regional environment and the human social practice, these costumes have their own particular characteristics in detail.Second, the paper has elaborated on the decorative art of Huizhou folk costumes from pattern, color and decorative skills.Analyses the characteristics and cultural intensions of patterns.The paper indicates that the regional elements have an influence on cultural connotation of pattern Huizhou folk costumes have some features such as pristine and elegant in color. These colors are in accordance with natural and human landscape so that they reveal the theory in ancient China about "Unity of Man and Nature".The decorative skills contain edging, embroidery, fold, knit, plate button, etc. The embroidery in decoration of Huizhou folk costumes is pure and fresh. There isn’t a pile of complex decorations. And the numbers of folds in pleated skirts are lager but the distances between folds are quite small.Third, the paper explains clothing custom which divides three parts i.e. birth, wedding and funeral costume. Many ceremonies in custom have related to the costume. At the same time, it also has a characteristic of region such as the clothes sent by grandma before the baby is born, the hand string against evil when baby is one hundred days old, the dragon boat pouch in Dragon Boat Festival and silver lock abacus when baby is one year old. In addition, the cloth as a departure with mother in wedding, using of indocalamus in four corners of sedan and some taboos in funeral are also show the relationship between custom and costume.Finally, the paper points out that the costume in Huizhou has a mountainous character through the study in blending. No matter size, craft or custom, the costumes reflect civilization of Hui merchants. The elegant of aesthetics and the imitating official dress in costumes are coincide with the integration of politics with business, trading while favoring Confucianism in civilization of Hui merchants. Besides, some elegant subjects just like poetry and scenery, advocating for Confucianism, preference elegance have embedded in atmosphere of respecting education. Huizhou clan strengthens ancestral idea through stepping in marriage and funeral which makes the clothing culture contain patriarchal clan mind.In conclusion, Huizhou folk costume culture of modern times has some regional characteristics and abundant cultural intensions. It is a result of adapting the local physical geographic environment and social cultural environment by folks in Huizhou.
