The automatic tool changer system is the key part of CNC. Its operation stability and reliability has an important influence on the working performance of CNC. In order to fulfill the selection, grab, pull, change and insert process of tool, both the tool magazine and principal axis achieve the fixture of tool through fixing up the pop-rivet at the end of tool with flexible elements. It will inevitably cause the pulling forces and inserting forces, whose adjustment ability is the prerequisite of the operational stability of automatic tool changing system in the tool-changing process. However, it lacks the checking devices and methods to acquire the pulling and inserting forces of ATC. Hence, it is difficult for users to check and adjust the forces in the assembling process.This paper developed a series of detection systems of ATC, this systems could no matter be used to adjust the clamping force of the magazine and the spindle precisely, but could also be used to detect and adjust the sword force and the blades force during the machine running process, it has an important meaning for the tool-pulling force and the tool-inserting force of ATC.The main contents of this paper include:(1) Developing a hardware system which including mechanical and circuitry. The design of mechanical part is without changing the function of knife shank and consider the hardware circuit layout of circuit system. Circuit design system includes power supply, voltage bias circuit, expanded signal processing circuit, the module of download control program, data acquisition and processing circuit, main power switch, signal acquisition switch, and the design of serial ports of each circuitry. After the design of each modules, combine these to an entirety.(2) Developing the software system of ATC pulling-force detecting system. First, we conducted the system configuration of single chip microcomputer, including system clock configuration, voltage reference configuration, port configuration, A/D converter configuration, and timer configuration, Second, Expounded the principle of A/D converter, data processing and serial transmission of data. And also debugged the program according to the demands. Finally, using Keil C51 to simulate the program and simply describe the program downloading principle.(3) The experimental study of tool-pulling force detecting system of machine center ATC. Two experiments were conducted primarily, one is confirmatory test, and we tested the feasibility, stability and reliability of machine center ATC pulling-force detecting system. The other is practical test, applied the detecting system to chain magazine robot reliability test system, and organized the data collection. Analyzed the changing of pulling-force and pushing-force of special magazine holder tool change process, and also analyzed the pulling-force of different magazine holder.Machine center ATC pulling-force detecting system has a huge value in manufacturing engineering field which developed by this article. It also filled the detecting tool of machine center ATC which can adjust the locking force of magazine holder and the pulling-force of broach device of spindle. Meanwhile, it also provided the technical support to conduct trouble shooting, fault detection and warning experiment for machine center. Hoping that it can provide some reference for others.
