In China, consumption in jewelry markets directly reflects the masses’preferences for jewelries and to some extent indicates the masses’mental perceptions on concepts of jewelries. In our current society, diamond rings, as jewelries that are imported into our country, have sprung up everywhere and find their places in the domestic jewelry market. Based on the writer’s research, it is found that various cases and consumption data present "diamond-ring phenomenon" generalized by the writer. In other words, increasingly more people in China regard diamond rings as the embodiment of marriage and relationship. Therefore, thesis mainly attempts to explore cultural backgrounds of jewelries hidden behind the social phenomenon and directive impacts of the phenomenon on prospective jewelry designs.Through investigation into development history of jewelries in China, the thesis aims to explore reasonableness of "diamond-ring phenomenon". Meanwhile, the thesis adopts diamond rings as the breakthrough so as to focus attention to study developments of rings from ancient times to modern times as well as the generation of consumption market. Besides, the thesis also summarizes reasons why diamond rings can be accepted by the current society from the aspects of both patterns and materials of jewelries. Based on cultural commonality of human beings, the thesis keeps an open mind and interprets "diamond phenomenon". Then the thesis comes up with the idea that different jewelry cultures can influence and integrate with each other in the development history.Researches and studies on modern jewelry cultures facilitate the writer to reflect on "diamond-ring phenomenon" from novel perspectives and in new contexts. Just as the saying goes, "There’s no making without breaking". How to raise new ideas and creation methods according to general mental perceptions of the masses on jewelries is a re-development matter during cultural integration, which is also a second viewpoint the thesis strives to explore---creation of jewelry cultures. Based on studies on jewelry materials, the writer creates symbolic and mixed self-made materials for jewelry creation. In the meantime, the writer pursues ceremonial senses when creating the self-made materials, thus realizing re-creation of diamond rings. Moreover, the introduction of new ideas and new materials puts macro theoretical interpretations into actual creations, which is a novel and innovative practice.
