In recent years, there is a new manufacturing method called dry wire electric discharge machining (dry-WEDM), which replaces dielectric fluid with air. Dry-WEDM has lots of advantages, such as low surface roughness, narrow discharge gap, non-polluted and so on. It is suitable for multiple cutting and finish machining. There is a great of differences between traditional WEDM and dry WEDM. At present, research on Dry EDM is few in number, so that some phenomena have not been explained. It is necessary to carry out the concerned researches. This paper studies the corrosion mechanism about the single pulse in dry EDM. EDM process which is the result of several single pulses is a complex mathematical model. The single pulse model which is the basis of EDM process has fewer factors and is observed easily. In view of finite condition, this paper studies the discharging process of the singe pulse in EDM. By simulating temperature field of the single pulse, this paper can master the corrosion mechanism about the single pulse.By reading a great of documents, this paper analyzed the processes of heat conduction and made a well-defined heat conduction model. The model took heat conduction, convection and material characteristics in pulse process into account. Via ANSYS analyzing the above-mentioned model, this paper acquired the temperature distribution map of the electrode at different pulse duration and pulse interval in dry EDM. The analytic result got the diameter and the depth of melt crater. Then, this paper checked the simulation result with the former experiments. This paper proved the model is credible. At last, this paper still acquired the stress field of the electrode by the coupling method and distribution curve of equivalent stress. It paves the way for further analysis from now on.
