The drying system is one of the most power-hungry units in Gravure press and the main source of harmful, toxic gases. Under the premise of explosion-proof, the control device of the drying system is to control the oven temperature within a certin range, ensure print quality and yield, minimize the concentration of harmful gases in the work environment in order to reduce the harm to workers and the pollution to the environment. Although conventional control devices own temperature measurement systems, they still need manual operations to control equipments, like heaters, fans, electric motors, to achieve the control of the drying process, which is inefficient, slow and heavily dependent on workers’experience.This paper presents a kind of intelligent control device for the hot air drying system of gravure press. It consists of two parts, the superordinate computer and the subordinate device which includes control module and communication module.The control module is the core module of the entire device, which outputs the corresponding status display and control commands to realize intelligent control of the drying process after collecting signals of temperature, air pressure, wind gate position and analyzing them with fuzzy PID and other algorithms. The communication module has two functions:downloading programs into the control module; uploading data of drying process to the superordinate computer and receiving parameter adjustment instruction or other instructions from the superordinate computer by setting all the subordinate devices into a same network and using RS-485 bus and optical fiber transmission medium.Besides realizing the intelligent control of the drying process, this device is still compatible with workers’manual operations at the industrial field and the superordinate computer can monitor and control the realtime running conditions of all the subordinate devices, which makes the device own great industrial value.
