Design Management In A Domestic Polysilicon EPC Project

EPC(Engineering, Procurement, Construction), as an overall contract, with rapid growth in recent years, is a new type of project management. It is based on the controlling of the whole process in the aspect of design, procurement, construction. Because of its obvious advantages in controlling cost, ensuring quality, guaranteeing the time limit for a project, more and more project owners accept this model of management.The success of an EPC project depends on the overall management level in each aspects of the general contractor including design, procurement, construction, which are based on the quality of project design and the design management.So design management is very important for an EPC project.The design management in an EPC project meansastate process to accomplish the established goal of the organization by planning, organizing, leading, controlling and etc in project design. It is not a simple periodic management,but through the whole project, it is an importantmanagement index during the whole project processing.So far, the scholars and the employees in the field of engineering construction at home and abroad have made lots of researching and exploring in EPC project, but little in design management.Combining with the research status of EPC projects, this paper summarizes the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of EPC general contracting, design analysis, value engineering theory, sustainable design and constructability study theory. As they arereferences, this paper studies and analysisthe design management in a case project of polysilicon plant EPC which the author participated in.Design management case studies systematically in three aspectsincludingdesign work scope,design organization,design management measures.Design work scope sums up three parts such asconstructiondrawing design,procurement services and construction services. Design organization investigates organization mechanism, organization process, organization communication, and performance evaluation methodsystematically.Finally,design management measuresreviews the progress management, quality management, cost management and risk management during the design management. Based on the above comprehensive analysis of the case,The paper also analyses the defects of the work, and puts forward improvement suggestions for future projects.During the research, this paper applies the literature data method, expert interview method and the method of integrating theory with practice to the case project, summarizes and analysisthe whole design process,discusses thegood method, experience and problems in the case project. It will help to improve the design management capability of the total package company, provide a reference for the similar project design management strategy.
