Xishan sub-factory belongs to Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical Co., Ltd., and is engaged in polyvinyl chloride production by calcium carbide method for long time. During the production process, Hg contamination in soil is inevitable. Presently, Xishan sub-factory has been moved out and this field is planned to establish residence community. In order to confirm environmental safety, we conduct on-site investigation and assessment of environmental pollution according to the related criteria, and remedied Hg pollution by ex-situ remediation.(1) All materials used in polyvinyl chloride production were collected and analyzed, and field contamination was surveyed. Samples were taken from 5 underground water sites,152 soil sites and 22 surface sites. The results showed that Hg was the main pollutant in this site.(2) According to assessment results and field experiment, remediation scheme was established. Hg was effectively stabilized and solidified by ex-situ remediation.(3) After remediation work completed, remediation effect received check and acceptance according to the related criteria, and found that residual Hg concentration in soil meet the criteria.
