The practice of producing process of coal blending and coking in recent years found that, some kind of coal has basically the same vitrinite reflectances and macerals, but evidently different coke performance, which is called ‘abnormal coal’. Vitrinite reflectance cannot explain this kind of abnormal performance, making it lack of theoretical explanation. The twenty kinds of coal to be studied in this paper involve the most commonly used kinds of materials in coal coking industry. In this paper, the vitrinite fluorescence, pyridine extract, and electrical conductivity of these kinds of coal will be tested. In addition, the test methods of vitrinite fluorescence and electrical conductivity will also be sketched. With coking test of a 40 kg coke oven and test of a series of coal industrial indexes, the influence of coal vitrinite fluorescence and electrical conductivity on coke quality will be discussed, too.Test shows that, with basically the same coalification and petrographic constituent of coal, the stronger the vitrinite fluorescence intensity of coking coal is, the better the coking property and the higher the indexes of smelted coke will be. However, the difference of mineral content will have some impact on the detection of coal vitrinite fluorescence intensity, therefore, the detection process should be scheduled after ash removal, while compared with vitrinite fluorescence intensity without ash removal, there exists a certain enhancement between these two intensities with similar general trends, demonstrating that minerals has a certain weakening effect on vitrinite fluorescence intensity. After pyridine extraction, extraction ratio of coal will have significant difference, it is because that the fluorescence is generated by asphalt formed by bituminization, the higher the extraction rate of pyridine is, the stronger the caking property will be. Therefore, vitrinite fluorescence intensity can be used to estimate the degree of bituminization. Electrical conductivity of coal reflects the structured degree of aromatic ring, thus having a series of effect on coal coking process.
