This thesis derives from the heading machine program of Jiangsu Changbao steel tube Co. Ltd., this equipment is mainly used on the pre process of cold drawn steel tube production, using this equipment can improve productivity, reduce energy consumption and increase the rate of finished products. The new equipment uses the radial forging process, which is more suitable for the deforming of the axes and tubes, the time of this forging process spent is shorter and the effect is better. The research of radial forging technology began early in abroad and is mature, the domestic research of radial forging is very little and mainly focused on the axle, pipe, non-ferrous metal wire and rod forging and so on, there has been no research reported that it had ever been used on the steel tube in the process of heading. This thesis successfully applied this craft to the cold drawn steel tube, so it is a kind of innovation.At first, this thesis introduced the application and production process of cold drawn steel tube, and then briefly introduced the study status of radial forging technology at home and abroad, on this basis combined the radial forging process with the heading forming process through theoretical analytical method, analyzed the influence of some parameters on the deforming process, such as feeding speed, hammer head cone Angle and rotational speed. Then through the numerical simulation method by using the DEFORM software, the simulation effect of the tube head under different process parameters has been researched, based on the analysis of the load, stress and strain, the characteristics and deformation law of steel tube heading process has been studied and the process parameters has been further determined. According to this new process, this thesis presents a design method of the new heading machine, and then the equipment has been improved and the effect under different conditions has been proved by experiments. Finally through the experiments on the material mechanical performance of the tube head before and after forging, it’s material mechanical property changes has been studied, the results show that the thickness of the tube wall was increased and the strength was also improved. On the other hand, the center of the tube is still hollow after forging which will benefit the following process such as drawing, souring and rinsing.
