The Reverse Design(RE) has been very popular used in aviation,machinery, automobile, etc. Apart from the traditional designing methods, the RE starts from the existing product, it collects the points cloud, and then reconstruct and redesign the three-dimensional virtual product in RE software. So designers can check the final product before manufacturing, which can decrease the waste of materials. It’s function of reconstructing three-dimensional virtual model becomes a new method for the complicated industrial design. The RE technology also give some ideas to fashion design. For fashion design, designer and patterner are working separately, patterner analysis the fashion sketch with their experience and make patterns. So there must exist error between patterns and clothing drawings. In order to guarantee the quality of the final products, it needs to make and check samples dresses before manufacturing. These problems can be solved through the RE design methods. If the virtual clothing surfaces and its pattern can be captured through RE technology, it will save so much time.Nowadays, there has already existed many RE software such as the Imageware series,which can provide many useful functions for fashion design. Some researchers have made a little progress, but the study of clothing surfaces flattening is mainly focused on that the theory of surface flattened and tight clothing flattened. There are less research on the flattening of loose clothing surfaces with some space. On the base of RE theory and flattening experiments, this article will try to reconstruct the virtual loose clothing surfaces and flatten the surfaces through RE technologies.Two kinds of naked and dress of the same body has been carried in experiment in the paper. The naked body experiment helps to the shirt surface reconstruct and flattening as reference. Besides the point cloud collecting and layering, layering curves generating, etc.This paper mainly include two parts:(1) the reconstruction of the body and shirt surfaces.These surfaces are so complex and irregular that it is more difficult to reconstruct the virtue surfaces. More researchers are all trying to find proper ways to solve the problem. The method used in this paper is extracting the layered body curves properly first, and then reconstruct body surface by the “Loft” order which connecting every layered curve.(2) the flattening of body and shirt surfaces and the generating of patterns. The flattening process is doing in the CATIA system. It’s 3D to 2D transformation function can provide goodconditions. The important work is to choose the best positions of darts. The way of setting darts in the paper is on the basis of many professional theories. The paper gets the perfect pattern which has minimum deformation in the end.
