The research on cutting mechanics of the impregnated diamond bit is an effective way to solve the problem of the deep difficult drilling formation for high efficiency.Basically, the cutting mechanics performance of impregnated diamond bit depends on the properties of cutting element. Through a lot of rock drilling unit experiments of impregnated diamond cutting element, the research on test and evaluation methods of the impregnated diamond cutting element’s cutting mechanics have done systematically. This paper discusses the influence of particle size, concentration, bit pressure, rotation rate on the cutting efficiency and wear-resisting property of bit as well as the adaptability of bit under different rock strength by "micro-cutting" rock breaking method.From the perspective of the cutting performance of bit, this paper analyzes the optimum combination of factors and levels of the cutting efficiency and wear-resisting property of bit applicable for different rocks, and puts forward the experiment methods to evaluate the cutting efficiency and wear-resisting property of the impregnated diamond element.From the perspective of cutting force, this paper establishes impregnated diamond cutter and impregnated diamond bit cutting force experience model and reveals the rock cutting mechanical behavior to further understand the rock breaking mechanism of impregnated diamond bit.This research mainly includes:1. Study major factors influencing the drilling performance of impregnated diamond bit and analyze basic principal of rock cutting and main failure types impregnated diamond bit in drilling progress.2. Upgrade the experimental machine in SWPU lab including adding the hydraulic power circulatory system, test and control system and so forth; design experimental micro impregnated bit according to the working principle of impregnated diamond bit; design torque and axial force measuring transducer according to the requirement of performance test.3. This paper has studied the experiment methods of rock drilling unit experiments of impregnated diamond cutting element、the experiment testing、experimental data processing and the evaluation of the cutting efficiency and wear-resisting property according to the experiment conditions.4. This paper sets up the experiments to study the cutting mechanics of the impregnated cutter, and establishes cutting mechanical experience model of single impregnated cutter, and then establishes cutting mechanical experience model of impregnated diamond bit after getting the force vector summation of cutter on the bit.5. So each respectively, this paper tests the working loads by simulating drilling conditions in lab for PDC bit and impregnate diamond bit with the same size, compares and checks the cutting force experience model.
