Food is the fundamental guarantee to maintain our daily life and is also the basic raw material of processing other by-product.China is a populous country and the annual grain production or consumption is about 500 million tons.Food problem is not only related to the national economy,but also related to people’s health and safety.Due to the properties of grain processing equipment is unstable and the process is relatively backward,It results an alarming loss of grain resources in process.The loss rate of grain is up to 8%,only annual food losses is more than 20 million tons.So increasing the food resource utilization is a necessary part of achieving sustainable development in grain industry.To improve the working stability and reliability is one of the primary means to ensure efficient production.Rice mill is the key equipment of rice processing and the whitening chamber is known as the heart of rice mill.In whitening chamber,the brown rice’s skin will be pulled off and erased by the action of frictional or abrasive debranning, which will get the rice milling.And it will always occur broken rice in the whitening process at the function of chamber’s pressure, this is why we must analysis the trajectory and the forces of brown rice.what’s worse, the movement state of brown rice in whitening chamber is still unknown and there is no reliable theories to support it.Based on a vertical sandy roller milling machine,The paper use the EDEM software which is based on the method of discrete element to simulate the materials’ movement in whitening chamber.The main research are :(1)According to the rice milling equipment,we will create and simplify the solid model for whitening chamber.Then we can import the model to the pre-processing module of EDEM.(2)we should measure the coefficient of restitution and dynamic and static coefficient of friction between the brown rice and three different contact materials,preparing for the post-simulation.(3)We should use the particles bonded method to establish discrete model for brown rice,while complete the sets of the contact model between brown rice and working parts.Finally we should set various parameters to simulate the materials’ movement for simulation process.(4)We will export the relative collision velocity and motion vector as well as the rice number of brown rice.It is more conducive to analyze simulation results by displaying these data in graphical form.(5)We will obtain the trajectory curve and force size of brown rice which is in whitening chamber.These data should provide a theoretical basis for studying the mechanism of broken rice.In this paper,the discrete element method is applied to analysis the materials’ movement in whitening chamber,and it also can verify the feasibility of using discrete element method to analysis agricultural bulk materials’ movement.
