In recent years, people try to simulate the three dimensional waves by virtual reality technology, resulting the 3D wave modeling and simulation has been widely applied in military warships confrontation, film and television works, ocean engineering, and game development. As the ocean wave simulation is influenced by many factors, such as space and dynamic, wave simulation becomes a hotspot of the computer graphics research field. This article starts with the characteristics of the offshore waves, based on study of the relationship between waveform parameters and water depth, and concludes that the characteristics of shallow water spectrum in secondary peak spectrum is caused by the water depth changes. Therefore, an improved JONSWAP spectrum is proposed, which adds a depth factor to overcome the defects of JONSWAP spectrum whose energy is too focused on the main peak, producing the secondary peak spectrum, so that it can be used to simulate the offshore wave.In order to describe the details of the waves, this article proposes a new threshold peak filtering algorithm using square-square fractal, which can overcome the wave creases and spikes phenomenon in traditional fractal algorithms. The wave surface interpolation point is calculated by the square-square fractal method. At the same time, the different surface spikes are filtered out through controlling the size of threshold. Finally, the rendering of ocean wave grid points is completed.Through analyzing the traditional wave fractal algorithm, it is found that large span of information transfer between adjacent interpolation points is the key reason of wave creases and spikes phenomenon. Therefore, a new threshold peak filtering algorithm is proposed, which is suitable for offshore wave simulation. Finally, on the analysis of Digital signal processor with the advantages of low power consumption, effective in real-time computing, and many integration ports function in the establishment of the system, a new method of calculating the wave height by DSP is put forward. This method has been realized on DSP hardware platform, which has laid the foundation for the large scale shallow offshore simulation in real-time.The results of simulation experiment with OpenGL show that the improved JONSWAP spectrum is suitable for offshore wave simulation, which can generate realistic, smooth, soft shallow waves. The new fractal algorithm can effectively reduce the wave creases and spikes phenomenon. It has a good sense of reality and real-time, and can reach the purpose of shallow...
