SWMM is a model of open source dynamic precipitation-runoff simulation. Itcan simulate the complete cycle of urban rainfallrunoff, including runoff and drainagenetwork, water, pipeline or non-series tanks in series, stormwater runoff treatmentfacilities and the changes in water quality of receiving water bodies. As an opensource geographic information systems and application programming interface,MapWindow provides most of the popular GIS functionality. Reasonable integrationof MapWindow which provides spatial data management and visualization andprofessionalspatial statistical analysis competence and SWMM model that providesprofessional drainage system dynamics simulation and water quantity/qualityanalysis capabilities, can expand the capacity of MapWindow analysis the stormwaterrunoff, enhance the statistical analysis and spatial visualization ability of SWMMmodel. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the integration of two both open sourcesoftware SWMM model and MapWindow, and develop a software which ownssimulation, analysis and spatial visualization ability.This paper combines the current development status and trends betweenSWMMmodel and MapWindow, study the basic principles of SWMM model and the corecomponent library of MapWindow, compare the integrated development methods andtechnologies of the applied geographic information system, then set up integrate aplatform. Firstly, study the basic integrated principles of the SWMM model and GISintegration methods and techniques. First, the basic principles of researchMapWindow, then selecta suitable component-based development approach toachieve the integrated development between SWMM model and MapWindow fromthree integrated development methods, and focuses on the component-baseddevelopment approach between SWMM model and MapWindow. Finally, this paperchoose DotSpatial,which is the latest MapWindow core components version, andSWMM computational engine to built a application-oriented platform, and test thesoftware functionality and integration effect through a simple model as an example ofnon-point source pollution. This paper fully use the advantages of open source software,complemented bothSWMM model and MapWindow advantages. Offer ideas and solutions for theintegration of open source GIS software and industry professional model. However,it’s still stay the exploration stage and the initial attempt, it’s necessary to continueresearch.
