Natural History was one kind of special knowledges in ancient China, and also an important part of Chinese traditional culture. The Middle Ages was an important period in the course of development of Chinese Natural History. The Medieval museum works and the Natural History concept will be the basic research object in this paper. Firstly, the paper will research the perspective of bibliography, the museum works and so on during the Middle Ages.Secondly, the paper will research the concept of Museum in the Middle Ages. Lastly, the paper will explore the concept of museum space. As a result, a comprehensive understanding of Natural History will come true.This paper is divided into four parts. In the first part, the paper will introduces the history of academic and the writing purport and so on. The Natural History, Natural History books and Natural History concept will be explained in this part. In the second part, the paper will studies four questions. Firstly, the paper will research the origin of Medieval museum works. The emergence of a large number of works of Medieval Museum was the result of development of Natural History during Pre Qin Dynasty. The relation between Natural History and Confucian became close since Confucius advocated Knowledge in study. Museum works in Medieval were originate from the Pre Qin period. And, Ya, Shan Hai Jing, Shen Nong Herbal were more nearer to Museum. Secondly, the paper studies the development of Museum works in Medieval. The Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties period was a peak in the development of ancient China’s natural history museum. All kinds of books appeared in large numbers in that period. And it declined in the Sui Tang period and the Five Dynasties. While, in the herbal works, it still achieved considerable success. Thirdly, the paper will do a micro study of medieval Museum works. The research was consisted of the author, volume number, the main content and so on in this period of eighty-three Museum works description. Fourthly, the paper divide the Museum works into three types on the basis of the third section. They are the geographical mystery, the herbal and the agriculture. And lastly, the paper will summarize the basic features of the Medieval museum works.In the third part, the paper studies the natural history concept in the Medieval. And this part will be divided into four sections. Firstly, the paper studies the evolution of the concept from the pre Qin Dynasty to the Medieval. The concept changed from natural history to animals and plants between the Pre Qin Dynasty and Han Dynasty, evolution has changed its intension and extension must change. People had different understanding in the Museum, Erudite and Knowledgeable in the Northern Song Dynasty. Secondly, the paper will studies the museum concept of classification in the Medieval. There were three different orientations in concept of classification of the Museum in the pre Qin period. The museum concept of classification in Medieval was based on traditional classification, and it was influenced by economy and social academic trend. Thus, it became more complexer. The paper will study books in this period to analyses and inquire the complex situation. Thirdly, the paper will studies the concept of museum space in the Medieval. The concept of museum space changed during the Medieval. In the beginning, it extended from the center of China to all around. later, it gradually narrowed. The development of Medieval museum space concept associated with border area development history, history of population and history of economy development in that period. In the end, the paper will discuss people’s idea about concept of museum space in South, Southwest and Western regions. Fourthly, the paper will concludes the museum of science under the background of innovation in Tang and Song Dynasty. Finally, the paper will extends the research vision backward in order to know the positon of museum more clearly in the Medieval in ancient China.
