Over the past few decades, working pressure has become a new research field inmanagement science and psychology both at home and abroad. Due to the rapid growth ofscience and technology as well as economy, working pressure has led to societyrestructuring and enterprise reforming. As a special group of workers, white-collars are thecore force of long-term and stable development for enterprises. However, as white-collars’working pressure increased year by year, different degrees of occupation burnout haveemerged, greatly affecting not only individual’s physical and mental health, but also thenormal operation of enterprises as well as social security and stability.In recent years, Chinese scholars have conducted studies on the relationship betweenworking pressure and occupation burnout, but still limited to helping occupations such asteacher, doctor, police and nurse. Previous studies, especially studies on personalityvariables and social support variables, mainly focused on the direct relationship betweenworking pressure and occupation burnout, thus ignoring many possible moderators andmediators which may explain the mechanism.Aimed at the current situation, our paper first chose white-collar workers in Suzhou asobjectives, and used questionnaires to collect our research data. Through descriptiveanalysis, variance analysis and regression analysis, we have successfully investigated thecurrent state of working pressure, personality characteristics, social support and occupationburnout among white-collars, explored the impact of demographic variables on workingpressure and occupation burnout. Our most innovative trial was the exploration of howsocial support as a mediator, personality traits as moderators have worked betweenworking pressure and occupation burnout. We finally drew corresponding conclusions.Aiming at the shortcomings, we prospected the future research.The main conclusions are as follows:1White-collars’ working pressure was at the medium level or above, but their level ofoccupation burnout was not that high; 2Regarding the emergence of working pressure and occupation burnout, there weresome differences on demographic variables, especially marital status and education level.3White-collars remarkably differed in their levels of working pressure, social support,personality characteristics and occupation burnout;4Working pressure was a predictor of occupation burnout and some dimensions ofworking pressure did predict occupation burnout well.5Some dimensions of social support could also predicted occupation burnout.Subjective social support well predicted cynicism, while objective social support was thebest predictor for emotional exhaustion, and utilization of social support could predictwhite-collars’ sense of achievement. All these have shown that social support partiallymediated the relationship between working pressure and occupation burnout;6Some dimensions of white-collars’ personality characteristics have interacted withworking pressure, which indicated that personality characteristics partially moderated therelationship between working pressure and occupation burnout.
