In recent years, as China’s economy continues to grow steadily, commercial bank plays an important role in the allocation of financial resources. But in the process of rapid development, commercial banks are also exposed some problems. Especially in the current situation, faced with the challenges brought about by pressures from the competitive foreign banks as well as the interest rate market, in order to survive under the pressure, achieve development and growth, China’s commercial banks must continue to blaze new trails and pioneer positive changes. Developing investment banking business in the extent permitted by national laws and policies, is a positive attempt of China’s commercial banks to respond to future challenges in terms of innovation, and is an inevitable choice for future challenges.Recent years, the investment banking business of Bank of Communications has been developed rapidly, with the variety of businesses increasing, product innovation continuing to improve, and business scale expanding. But the development of the investment banking business there still has some problems which need to be further improved. For example, the quantity and quality of investment banking staff need to be improved, investment banking competitive products is not enough, some part of the investment banking business process efficiency remain to be further improved, and the investment banking risk control remains to be further strengthening. These problems, if not resolved, will affect the future market competitiveness of the investment banking business of Bank of Communications.This paper uses the theory of strategic management and relevant analysis tools, such as the PEST analysis and Porter’s five forces model analysis, to analyze the external and internal environment of investment banking business, sum the opportunities, threats, internal strengths and weaknesses of the investment banking business. Then SWOT analysis model is used to analyze the strategies investment banking business can take, and then combined the strength of the Bank of Communications Group with the strategic development goals of the investment banking business and bring about specific strategy for the implementation of the program.The study in this paper also has certain significance of reference for the future development of the investment banking business of other commercial banks.
