In this thesis, material flow analysis and ecological footprint models are usedas the core tools, starting from the character and essence of the resources andenvironment system, using physics and the principle of Dialectics of nature to guideand analyze the selection of perspectives., and ultimately using material flow andecological footprint as basic models. Bringing brief introduction of two methods foranalysis of application principle and at the same time fusing them two together. Usingthe method of extraction of comprehensive index factor for sustainable analyzing andevaluating of resources and environment in Shijiazhuang2002-2011.Through the analysis of economic development, population, recourses, energyand the current state of environmental system in Shijiazhuang. We can tell, during thestudy period in Shijiazhuang, GDP and fiscal revenue remain a steady and rapidgrowth, the dominant industry of national economy is still the second and the thirdindustry, the industrial economy is mainly about raw material processing and energyexploitation enterprises. In terms of resources, land, mineral resources are abundantwhile on the contrary, there is a lack of water resource yet a huge demand of it at thesame time, rich in coal resources, the energy consumption output rate is nothigh, the resources consumption has increased year by year though; population showsobvious increasing trend, especially the city population increased significantly;Although in recent years, the pollutant emissions of Shijiazhuang has declined, thetotal amount of wastewater discharge, the total generation of solid waste, industrialwaste is still showing as a growing tendency.Material flow analysis showed that among the direct material input inShijiazhuang, from large to small input sequence are: water input, gas material inputand solid material input and the overall trend is increasing. Regional resourceextraction activities continue to enhance and the way to develop quite extensive. It’snot hard to draw a conclusion from a subtle perspective that, Shijiazhuang has astrong dependence on the resources, and the main reasons for causing theenvironmental stress is originated from the DHF. Although the total material output is overall on the growing trend, however was declined in2003and2008implying thatthe environment system of Shijiazhuang is facing an enormous stress. Although thematerial productive forces are increasing and its efficiency of using has improvedsignificantly, and the efficiency of resource utilization is still quite low.Ecological footprint study showed that during the study period, in Shijiazhuang, the ecological footprint per capita is on growing tendency. From the composition ofthe ecological footprint, the growing proportion are cultivated land, woodland, grassland while the declining proportion are fossil fuels, building land, the stableproportion is water. The ecological capacity per capita is on declining trend. Duringthis period, they suffer from ecological deficit every year. The utilization of naturalresources in Shijiazhuang is beyond the scope of ecological carrying capacity, ecological development is in an unsustainable state.
