Transportation is the artery of social and economic activities in the area. Highway traffic can best reflect the transportation of an area and it is the most important symbol of the economic development in the area. Ring of Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration is an important economic growth pole in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Highway traffic is the most important transport to contact each other in Urban Agglomerations. This dissertation applies the GIS Technology, Fractal Dimension, Grey Correlation Analysis, Transportation Economics Elasticity, and Data Development Analysis to do a research on the relationship between highway traffic network and the macroeconomic development in the Ring of Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration. Based on the analysis above, the following conclusions can be made:(1) In the Ring of Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration, highway traffic network has matured and the fractal dimensions are over "1".This shows an obvious fractal character in highway traffic transportation. From length dimension, highway uniformity spreads concentrically. Highway uniformity of Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration is higher than the surrounding. From branching dimension, highway is staggered and smooth in the Ring of Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration, showing obvious complication. From correlation dimension, highway transport accessibility is good among eight cities. Changsha city as the center distributes radially in the Ring of Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration.(2) The result of Grey Correlation Analysis shows that the correlation of affecting factors in the relationship between highway traffic and regional economy is over "0.9",close to"1".That means the two has a high correlation. In economic indicators affecting highway traffic, the correlation of regional GDP is "0.9911", ranking the highest. In highway traffic indicators affecting regional economy, correlation of highway mileage is "0.9911", ranking the highest, then the freight turnover and passenger turnover.(3) Transportation Economics Elasticity is fluctuated. During the last decade, the freight elasticity and the passenger elasticity are over "0",which shows a significant positive correlation between them. Freight elasticity coefficient greater than0and there also exists apparent phase and fluctuation, especially in the year of2003,2004and2008when economic event and policy happened. But passenger elasticity coefficient is less than1, indicating that passenger transport lags behind regional economic development.(4) In the highway input-economy output model, the dissertation uses the method of Data Envelopment Analysis. The results tell that during the year of2003-2012,only overall efficiency in the year of2004,2007and2010are less than "1",which means highway traffic and the regional economy are inadaptable in the Ring of Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration. In the other seven years, the overall efficiency are "1", which means the two basically adapt to each other.
