Based on the concern of the history of economic development in contemporaryChina, the research of domestic and foreign academic on traditional Chinese ruralindustrial history is very active, especially in the rural area of the cotton textileindustry. But the research is basically confined to the framework of stagnation intraditional China. The academia also appeared research tendency on overcoming andgetting rid of traditional China theory of stagnation, some Chinese academics viewsare based on the commercialization of agricultural and handicraft products during theMing and Qing Dynasties period, but they are not widely accepted by the people. Inthe early1970s, American researcher Franklin Mendels, put forward the theory of“original industrialization” which based on Flanders’s rural industrializationexperience, various countries academic circle presented the research tendency toapply “original industrialization” theory to modern rural China cotton textile area.And they basically think that the development of rural industry in China and Europepresenting the process of economic change in a similar way. However, as a result ofthe difference of research interest, the research results about the traditional China ruralarea cotton manufacturing industry, and basically did not attach great importance tothe traditional Chinese rural family hand-woven industry market structure issues.Based on the above academic research characteristics, and based on the relevantresearch achievement of academia research, this article will focus on the problem ofthe relationship between the Chinese farmers and the market, and study thehand-weaving industry market structure of modern Jiangnan rural. The results showthat in Jiangnan region’s rural families hand-woven industry market is basicallyconstituted by two aspects, one is the independent commodity producers-machinehouseholds who sell through self-organization by the direct market behavior, as wellas farmers’ indirectly market behavior under the system of merchant-buyer. Throughthe formations and development of two market behaviors, specially through the casestudy of the weaves industry market mechanism of modern Suzhou area, this articlemake a research on the weaves industry market mechanism of modern Jiangnan area.This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter, the introduction,expounds on the basis of the research background, research purpose and significance,and focuses on analysis of the results of previous studies as well as shortcomings, thenproposes a new perspective of starting research on the relation between Chinese farmer and market, this is the innovation of this article; second chapter, through theuse of the operating mode theoretical model about traditional rural small-scale peasanteconomy, analyze the formation and development of the market structure which sellthrough self-organization; Third chapter, analyze the market structure under themerchant-buyer system, and discuss the dependent manner and degree of familyhand-weaving industry under the merchant-buyer system; Fourth chapter, takes themodern Suzhou area as a case, tries to make a research on the weaves industry marketmechanism of modern Jiangnan area; Fifth chapter, on the basis of summarizing themain points of this article, analysis the significance of economic development inChina today.
