Soybean is a fundamental and paramount cereal crop and an important source ofedible oil and protein and closely bounded with people’s lives. China is the largestimport and the second-largest consumption country in the world, however,we don’tget the corresponding pricing power due to various reasons. The study of soybeanpricing power is conducive to the improvement of value chain of soybean industry,of great significance ensure the food security in China. Based on the greatachievements of some scholars, the paper studies the pricing power in every link fromthe perspective of global value chain. This paper introduces the general overview of soybean industry, analyzes theworldwide soybean planting and the trade structure. Based on this, the whole chain ofsoybean industry is divided into the following sectors: seed, planting, processing, transportation, sales and so on, then we analyze the pricing power in each sector.Through the analysis of every link, we finds that the lack of soybean pricingpower in our country is due to the following factors: the small scale of the soybeanseed enterprises; the ungear between the R&D and the market; geographicaldiversities in growing segments and low efficiency in planting; low level of squeezingand the squeezing enterprises are shortsighted; the lack of public administration andserves, short of effective logistics system and modern market system; the absence ofcooperation among each sector. Subjected to these factors, compared with theinternational grain merchants’ perfect value chain structure, we couldn’t control thepricing power. Finally, some recommendations about promotion of soybean pricing power aregiven: increase our domestic soybeans supply as much as possible, reduce dependenceon imported soybeans, accelerate the coordination and integration among the chain, togain the success of effective transfer between sectors, upgrade every links, as well assome suggestions about our government.
