Research On High-tech Enterprise Internationalization Path Selection Form The Technological Standard Perspective

Nowadays, technological standard has become the most important rule of thegame in the high technology industry, the one who has mastered the industry standardsauthority and its technology patents participate into international standards willbecome the biggest beneficiary. Through the strategy of technology standards andintellectual property, developed countries control the global industrial chain and grabthe excess profits; the multinational companies also curb the competitors through thisstrategic tool. Compared with the multinational companies of developed countries,China’s enterprises in the international technical standards-setting was vulnerable,especially in terms of core technology, technical standards and brand. As amanufacturing power, we mainly rely on the foreign technology standards; the lack ofindependent innovation ability has seriously restricting our industry’s technologicalprogress and international competitiveness. In a word, the study has importantpractical significance from the technical standard perspective on the high technologyenterprise internationalization path selection.This article attempts to combine the technology standards strategy and thegrowth of enterprise internationalization, and make clear that how technologystandardization strategy to affect the enterprise internationalization path selection.First of all, according to the process of technology standardization and the enterprisetechnology standards authority, we build a model of high-tech enterpriseinternationalization path. Secondly, due to the different status in standardization, suchas leading or participate, the path of enterprise internationalization based ontechnological standard will different, its selection mechanism and stage also presentdifferent characteristics. Finally, we use Qualcomm and Huawei as the sample of casestudy to verify the theoretical reasoning.The empirical analysis show that, the internationalization path of standardcontroller begins from the strong R&D capacity of the core technology and thefirst-mover advantages of market, while, there are also information andlate-developing advantages for the standard followers to layout patent, eventuallyleading technical standards and promoting the internationalization development. Nomatter which kind of internationalization path, enterprise’s technologicalstandardization strategy all plays an important role. The research result of this paperhas important enlightenment to enterprises participating in international competition through the technological standard strategy.
