Industrial structure is one of the important factors that affect economic growth. Toa certain extent, economic growth depends on the state of industrial structure, and willlead to a corresponding change in the industrial structure. The process of moderneconomic growth is a mutual dependence, promotion and ever-evolving process ofindustrial structural change and economic growth.Industrial structure is not only the embodiment of the realistic economic operation, but also the deep reflection of the effect of resource allocation. Economic growth modetransformation is largely reflected through the adjustment and change of i ndustrialstructure. The successful experience of economic growth in developed countriescertainly illustrated that industrial structural change is a key point of keeping a healthyand stable economic growth in the knowledge economy era. It has a great significanceto urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River which is facing theeconomic system transition and economic growth mode transformation. In the paper, starting from domestic and international research achievements, accompany with the exposition of industrial structural change rule, descriptive analysison the actual situation of urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the YangtzeRiver specifically, the author establishes a theoretical framework on the impact ofindustrial structural change on economic growth. Based on this qualitative analysis andper capita gross domestic production of urban agglomeration in2000to2010, theauthor uses the clustering analysis to divide urban agglomeration in the middle reachesof the Yangtze River into three areas according to the economic development level. Then, building a panel data model to make an empirical analysis on the impact ofindustrial structural change on economic growth separately, so as to reduce thedeviation caused by unbalanced economic development between estimated result andreal situation. The research results show that as to class one area, the development of the secondand tertiary industry can promote economic growth effectively, while the primaryindustry has a negative relationship with economic growth. Regarding to class two andclass three area, changes of the primary industry, second industry and tertiary industryare positively related to economic growth. As the economic development of urbanagglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River is disparate, the impact ofindustrial structural change on economic growth is different in different cities. Finally, some relevant policy recommendations are presented.
