The Wuling mountain region is an important area where the minorities live incompact communities, but also a typical region that the economic development lagbehind in China. Despite the poverty alleviation and development work has achievedremarkable results in recent years, it is still not realistic to enhance the region’s industryand agriculture in a short period of time due to the restrictions of the geographicalconditions and historical reasons. However, Wuling’s unique topography and rich ethniccustoms provide itself congenital and favorable conditions to develop tourism.Poverty alleviation and development group of the State Council promulgated the"Regional Development and Poverty Alleviation Plan in Wuling MountainArea(2011-2020)", which willtake the development of tourism as a focus of economic development in WulingMountain Area.Thus not only give the full recognition of the status of Wuling Mountain’s tourism,but also provide opportunities to its tourism development. However, the tourismdevelopment of the Wuling Mountain is facing serious challenges in the context ofincreased competition of regional tourism.This paper is a new exploration when WulingMountain is facing both opportunities and challenges in the development of its tourism.Due to the strength of the tourism competitiveness is influenced by a variety offactors, Even Wuling Mountain has the advantage of resource endowments in thedevelopment of tourism, it is still difficult to determine the strength of its tourismcompetitiveness compared with other important tourism provinces (municipalities) asthe increasing competition in the regional tourism.In addition, the unbalanced development of tourism in different city within WulingMountain area also becomes the factors to limit the overall improvement of the tourismcompetitiveness.From both terms,it is great significance to research the strength of the internal andexternal tourism competitiveness in the Wuling Mountain area, more importantly,weshould suggest the way to cultivate its tourism competitiveness on the basis ofrecognizing the current situation. The paper is divided into six components:Part I: Introduction. Expound the research background and significance, and conduct a retrospective study on the tourism competitiveness both at home and abroad,also have a brief introduction to the purpose of this research, ideas, innovation anddeficiencies.Part II: Overview of the theory on tourism competitiveness. Define and describethe theory on tourism competitiveness by accessing the literature of tourismcompetitiveness both at home and abroad. A more detailed analysis of the factorsaffecting tourism competitiveness, lay the foundation for building evaluation indexsystem for tourism competitiveness.Part III: Building evaluation index system for tourism competitiveness in WulingMountain area. Build evaluation index system for tourism competitiveness based onthe factor analysis methods.Part IV: Empirical study on tourism competitiveness of Wuling Mountain.UsingFactor analysis methods fully grasp the regional tourism competitiveness andintra-regional tourism competitiveness of Wuling Mountain, which recognize thestrengths and weaknesses of the Wuling Mountain’s tourism, and provide the basis forthe cultivation of tourism competitiveness of Wuling Mountain.PartV: Strategies and recommendations to enhance the tourism competitiveness ofWuling Mountain. The author proposes strategies and recommendations to enhance thetourism competitiveness of Wuling Mountain on the basis of the research of part four.Part VI: Conclusion. Summarize the full text and conclude the author’s study, andalso point out the particularity to develop tourism in ethnic area.
